8 March Award. A total of 21 projects are competing for the 8 March - Maria Aurèlia Capmany Award

Under this year’s slogan of “Let’s do away with precarity”, the 39th edition of the 8 March - Maria Aurèlia Capmany Award aims to support projects that fight precarity among women in Barcelona, in order to promote gender equality and improve their living conditions.

The award ceremony will take place next Monday, 10 March, at 5.30 pm, in the Saló de Cent.

A total of 21 projects are vying for the award this year, a notable increase on last year, when only 10 proposals were submitted. The jury for this edition’s award is composed of Pilar Carrasquer Oto, a Doctor in Sociology and retired professor from the Autonomous University of Barcelona;  Mentxu Gutiérrez Jiménez, a union activist with a background in labour and social equality; Fina Rubio Serrano, a graduate in Social and Cultural Anthropology with a Master’s in Women’s Studies, Gender and Citizenship (Interuniversity Institute of Gender Studies); and, representing the Barcelona Women’s’ Council, Rut Trujillo Domínguez from the In Via Foundation, who has over 22 years of experience in the social sector and has worked with groups at risk of social exclusion.

Award ceremony

The award ceremony will begin with the screening of a video on the winning project from the 2024 edition: “Let’s do away with the codes: for gender equality in the tech sector”, by Factoría F5.

This will be followed by the presentation of this year’s award to a project aimed at driving positive action and progress in eradicating the factors that perpetuate vertical segregation; fostering leadership and the empowerment of women in the different sectors of economic and social activities; promoting actions to mitigate the wage and pension gap, the feminisation of poverty or loss of opportunities and female talent, and spurring training, guidance and self-organisation initiatives that give women more opportunities to access decision-making jobs, among other things.

The event will also include an artistic performance.
