What can I do as a citizen?

The studies made conclude that availability of food is the factor that best explains the presence of pigeons in a certain place and that the situation is caused by people feeding them.

Awareness campaigns have been mounted for several periods of time throughout the city’s districts to reduce the availability of food for pigeons, with environmental information officers deployed out on the street, who have been giving explanations and raising awareness among the public, especially pigeon feeders, of the negative effects caused by giving food to pigeons.

As for the ethical control of pigeons, we have been calling on the public for joint responsibility in: monitoring the running of dispensers and alerting the authorities of possible acts of vandalism; taking part in the register of incidents and their possible solutions; reducing direct feeding and controlling indirect feeding by eliminating food leftovers on the ground (not feeding or throwing food on the ground); and informing the authorities of the locations of abandoned and open buildings that enable nesting.
