An exhibition that explains the evolution of the urban green infrastructure of Barcelona from two perspectives:
-
The origins and development of the city's parks and gardens from the 19th century to the present day. It features the benefits represented by green spaces and their aesthetics and history, for the purposes of conveying their importance as a source of biodiversity, health, beauty and community life.
-
The role of the people who have allowed green spaces to grow in the city. The green fingers that have worked them, the city residents who demanded them and became involved in their management, as well as the main people in charge of the management of these spaces, together with the arrangement of the urban fabric.
A series of panels and digital screens sharing the basic chronology of the city's large parks with the public, supplemented with interviews with the key players who took part in reclaiming and managing the public greenery.
This year sees the Institute de Parcs i Jardins celebrating its 60th anniversary as a public entity, its highlight being Enfortim, a process for transforming and renovating the institution and the people involved to adapt to new ways of managing Barcelona’s green model.
