Sant Jordi 2024: books and roses all around the city

We celebrate Sant Jordi on 23 April with books, roses and lots of culture. A large area will be closed to traffic in the heart of L’Eixample, between Av. Diagonal, Gran Via, C/ Balmes and C/ Pau Claris, with activity also reaching La Rambla and Gran de Gràcia.
In addition, all the districts will have spaces reserved for the sale of books and roses, with establishments able to set up their stalls in streets from 22 April.
- Ciutat Vella: La Rambla, Plaça Reial and Passeig de Lluís Companys.
- L’Eixample: Plaça de Catalunya, Plaça de la Universitat, Rambla de Catalunya and Passeig de Sant Joan (between Plaça de Tetuan and Arc de Triomf).
- Sants-Montjuïc: Rambla de Sants.
- Les Corts: Avinguda Diagonal (between Carrer de Joan Güell and Carrer de Pau Romeva, side nearest the sea).
- Sarrià – Sant Gervasi: Plaça de Sarrià.
- Gràcia: Carrer Gran de Gràcia (between Carrer de Sèneca and Rambla del Prat), Plaça de Nicolás Salmerón, Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia and Jardinets de Gràcia.
- Horta-Guinardó: Plaça d’Eivissa and the area delimited by Carrer del Tajo, between Baixada de la Plana and Baixada del Mercat.
- Nou Barris: canopy in Via Júlia (between Carrer d’Argullós and Carrer de Joaquim Valls), and Plaça del Virrei Amat (at the junction between Carrer de Felip II and Carrer de la Jota).
Sant Andreu: Plaça d’Orfila and Plaça del Comerç, and Carrer del Segre (between Carrer del Pont and Carrer del Cinca). - Sant Martí: Rambla del Poblenou (between Passeig de Calvell and Avinguda Diagonal), Carrer del Cabanyal, Carrer de la Sèquia Comtal, Plaça del Mercat, Plaça de Font i Sagué and the space at the Biblioteca Gabriel García Márquez.
This year’s Sant Jordi gets under way with the Opening Speech on Reading by the British writer and actor David Walliams, who has sold over 56 million copies of his books, which have been translated into more than 55 languages. The opening speech is on 22 April, at 6 pm, and will take place for the first time at the Biblioteca Gabriel García Márquez.
As a prelude to the main day, the city’s library network is again organising the Sant Jordi Dialogues, where writers from everywhere will be conversing about affinities between their work and engaging with their readers.
There’s also an open day at the City Hall on Sunday, 21 April, from 10 am to 8 pm. Admission is free and open to everybody (with limited capacity), enabling visitors to discover parts of the building such as the Escala Negra, the Saló de Cròniques, the Sala Tàpies, the Mirador M. Aurèlia Capmany and much more.
The city’s districts and neighbourhoods will be organising various activities over the days around Sant Jordi, such as storytelling, puppet shows, literary competitions and workshops.
