Alert stage of the municipal action plan for forest fire risk activated

23/07/2021 - 11:08 h

More firefighting resources have been assigned to cover the Parc de Collserola since the alert was activated.

Barcelona City Council has activated the municipal action plan for forest fire risk, after the Government of Catalonia activated level 3 of its Alfa Plan in the county of Barcelona and various forest fires broke out in different parts of Catalonia.

Today is the day with the most acute risk of forest fires in the city since the year began. Seven city fire stations are on standby, given the high possibility of a forest fire occurring.

Given the situation, people are advised to exercise extreme caution. In this respect, it is important to remember that forestry tasks and any other activity that might generate sparks within 500 metres of woodlands have been prohibited since 15 March (such as burning waste or having barbecues).

The forest fire campaign by the Barcelona Fire Service began in June and will remain in place until mid-September. During this time, the Prevention, Fire extinction and Rescue Service (SPEIS) adapts and bolsters its operations for the summer months to enable a swift, coordinated and effective response to forest fires which might occur in the hot months.

The teams covering the near 1,800 hectares of surface area in the park which belong to the city are shared between the districts of Les Corts, Sarrià – Sant Gervasi, Horta-Guinardó and Nou Barris.
