Nearly fifty thousand LED points to improve energy efficiency in the city
30/12/2022 - 12:32 h
The last three years have seen work carried out on public lighting in nearly 600 cases, improving the sensation of light in the city with more efficient white light and correcting dark spots through new technology which has helped cut power consumption. Public lighting currently accounts for just 20% of municipal energy expenditure.
A total of 45 million euros has been invested to strengthen and improve lighting in the city through the Lighting Renewal Plan, the maintenance contract and work on new developments.
Work has been carried out with district offices to identify dark spots, taking into account the gender perspective and improving the sense of light. Recent years have seen work completed at 150 points, with lighting added or increased in 71% of cases and existing lighting refocused in 29% of cases.
The main criteria for renewing lighting are:
- Better sense of light, in other words better distributed thanks to LED technology (white light).
- Greater uniformity of light to avoid dark spots.
- More lighting for pavements and priority for pedestrian areas.
- Different colour tones for roads and pavements to distinguish spaces for people and for vehicles.
- Optimisation through control and regulation systems.
