Plan to protect local commerce in the Barcelona Superblock
12/03/2021 - 12:32 h
In an effort to protect local commerce and the combination of uses in the future green streets and squares of the Barcelona Superblock, a new usage plan is being developed to regulate activities in public places. The plan will apply to the four green streets (Consell de Cent, Girona, Rocafort and Comte Borrell) and the four squares (at the junctions between Consell de Cent and Rocafort, Enric Granados, Comte Borrell and Girona).
To avoid changes in uses while the new plan is being drafted, a one-year suspension will apply on the issue of licences and building permits linked to music and leisure, eateries and food commerce. The suspension applies in sections giving onto Consell de Cent, between Vilamarí and Roger de Llúria; Rocafort, between Av. Roma and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes; Comte Borrell, between Av. Roma and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, and the section of Enric Granados between Pl. Doctor Letamendi and Consell de Cent. In addition, a specific usage plan applies for the area around C/ Girona, regulating activities open to the public, food commerce and other establishments.
Early in March, the winning proposals were chosen from the public competitions to revamp the four streets and four squares, with the winning studios now working to define the final models for them. The next stage will be to draft the projects. Work is expected to start in June 2022.
