We are holding a project competition to create 10 fully accessible play areas

04/05/2022 - 12:30 h

Barcelona has a new public space model. The city is being transformed to create streets and squares full of life, with greener, new meeting spaces and outdoor play areas. Barcelona City Council is therefore holding a project competition to create 10 fully accessible play areas.

What do we mean by fully accessible play area? What does this model need to be like to enable everyone to enjoy a space designed for games?

The aim of the competition now being launched is to explain what the play-areas accessibility model is, explore solutions and ideas that make accessibility the driving force behind the projects and provide the city with fully accessible local areas. It is also a competition intended to provide an opportunity for creators without previous experience.

You can see the video presentation of this competition here.

Outdoor games are one of the cornerstones of Barcelona’s new urban model, as set out in the Barcelona Plan for Games in Public Spaces, presented in February 2019. All this to make Barcelona a play-friendly city.
