Tunnel audit

Urban Ecology carried out an audit of the urban tunnels in Barcelona and discovered that coordinating improvements, maintenance and incident management was complicated by the fact that tunnel management and maintenance was in the hands of various operators.

Based on the audit’s conclusions, a decision was made to change this model by consolidating the procurement of management and maintenance services, resulting in several contracts being replaced by a single body responsible for carrying out this work in a fully integrated manner.

The urban tunnel round table has since become a technical advisory body which, among other things, has approved a set of technical guidelines that define the criteria for drafting new-build projects, as well as plans for renovating and improving the safety of existing tunnels.
