Barcelona is set to make history in 2026 by becoming the fifth world host for a Super Series wheelchair tennis tournament, the highest level on the international circuit. Only Australia, Japan, the USA and France have hosted an event of this level until now. The TRAM Barcelona Open is being held at the Reial Club de Polo from 25 to 30 May, at the height of the clay tennis season and just before the Roland Garros, ensuring the participation of the world’s top players.

The ascent to the Super Series category also means an increase in the prize money to 45,000 dollars, the highest figure ever for a tournament of this type in the Spanish state. This strengthens Barcelona’s international positioning and its commitment to adapted sport.

The tournament is being organised by the Fundació Johan Cruyff, a global leader in promoting sport for children with functional diversity. As ever, the event acts as an inspiration for young sportspeople and as a beacon for inclusive tennis.

The project is backed by TRAM Barcelona, Moventis, Quirónsalud, Eurofirms, territorial, national and international federation, as well as Barcelona City Council (through the IBE) and the Government of Catalonia. The new category makes Barcelona a global hub for adapted tennis and consolidates the tournament as an essential date on the international calendar.
