The “Barcelona Corre” challenge concludes with high levels of participation

The Barcelona Institute of Sports has completed its review of the “Barcelona Corre” challenge, an initiative that from 11 November to 1 January challenged participants to run a total of 100 kilometres.

The challenge served as preparation for the Nose Race and enjoyed high levels of participation with 1,232 people signed up to take part.

Key figures from the challenge

During the challenge period, the participants ran a total of 20,957 km, with an individual average of 70.2 km. Although many people did get involved, some 178 participants (14%) managed to complete the 100 km target set for the challenge.

Notable among the participants is a 56 year old woman who covered the greatest distance in the challenge, with a total of 792.74 km, while the person who ran the most kilometres was a 40 year old man who ran an accumulated total of 710 km.

The participants had the chance to win two smart watches and five 100 euro vouchers to spend on sports equipment. Participation figures:

  • Female participants: 42% (517 participants).
  • Male participants: 58% (715 participants).
  • Adolescents aged 12 to 16: 15%.

With regard to age groups, participants aged 31 to 60 years old were the most active, with an average of 94.9 km walked or run.

A motivational sporting challenge

With the “Barcelona Corre” challenge, the Barcelona Institute of Sports has promoted an initiative that combines physical activity, personal development and preparation for the Nose Race.

The high number of accumulated kilometres is testament to the success of this initiative, which has motivated sports people of all ages to stay active during the winter months.
