Safety and prevention. There was also an award for the public-private safety operation for nightlife on the seafront.

The Victim Support Service (SAV), operated by the City Police, receives the Meninas Award 2023 for its comprehensive work providing immediate support and guidance for victims of gender violence, which has assisted 463 women victims in eight months. There was also recognition for three districts for achieving zero mortalities from road accidents in 2022, and to the City Council for a safety operation linked to nightlife.

The Meninas Award was given by the Government Delegation yesterday, Wednesday, as part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November. The awards highlight the work of individuals and organisations committed to eradicating male violence towards women.

The award recognises the work of the SAV, which offers comprehensive priority support with professionals specialising in this field.  The service is based at Les Rambles, 43, the first police premises exclusively providing support for victims of sexist violence, and at Marie Curie, 20, in Nou Barris.

With this support model, the City Police is one of the most specialised police corps in providing initial support for victims. There are also a whole range of free and confidential services to assist victims and to prevent and eradicate male violence towards women.

Safety at the seafront and good figures on road accidents

Besides the Menina Award, this week brought two other distinctions. On Monday, the districts of Ciutat Vella, Gràcia and Sant Andreu received the Vision Zero Award from the Association of Traffic Engineers and Mobility Specialists, as municipal districts with zero mortalities from road accidents in 2022.

Given in Madrid, the award was collected by an intendent from the City Police. The mobility specialist Heribert Muñoz, from the City Council, also attended and took part in a conference on road safety.

Also on Monday, the City Council received the Golden Moon Award for public-private collaboration on road safety linked to nightlife, for its management of the seafront in Barceloneta, where many nightlife venues are located.

The award was given as part of the ninth International Nightlife Congress and the fourth Spanish Nightlife Congress, held in Barcelona. The award was collected by the Third Deputy Mayor for Safety, Prevention and Coexistence, Albert Batlle, who was tasked with inaugurating the event. Other participants included the Commissioner for Coexistence, Montse Surroca, and an inspector from the City Police, in two round tables.
