Buying tickets to shows
Online purchases of tickets to shows are increasing. A boom with a hidden facet: on some digital platforms, particularly resale platforms, fraudulent practices such as charging abusive prices or never sending the tickets to the purchaser after making the payment, among others, have been detected. Make sure you do your research properly in order to avoid this:
Check that the sales platform you are using belongs to the company that manages the show or to a specialist site, or buy the tickets directly on the artist’s website or that of the cinema or theatre where the event is being held.
If you suspect that the company may not exist or that it is a resale site with no guarantees, check the platform’s registered address. If it is located outside the European Union, don’t buy the tickets. Don’t buy tickets from individuals either, as they may be the source of fraud. Carefully read the terms of purchase to avoid purchasing tickets that you will never receive.
One of the most common frauds involves changing the final amount to be paid. Check the advertised ticket price and verify that it is the same in order to avoid paying abusive amounts. Bear in mind that it is common to charge a handling fee of up to €3. All expenses must be set out in detail in the total price, as well as the claim procedure in case you want to make a claim. Although this is not very common, refunds may be available in some cases if you have paid for insurance. Find out about this.
You should know that there are authorised resale platforms that charge a small fee for their services. They are qualified channels with guarantees that you can use if you first check that they are certified sites, they have good ratings on social media and they agree to give you a refund in the event of fraud.
If you are not satisfied with the service, you can claim from the selling company by means of a channel that makes a record of the claim, such as a web form, an email address or a telephone service with an incident number. If you do not receive a response within 30 days, contact the Municipal Consumer Information Office.
