Barcelona City Council, through the Government Measure for Democratising Care 2017-2020, among others, aims to promote another way of socially organising care in the medium and long term, from a transformative perspective. In order to achieve this, three main objectives have been established:
- Recognising care as a central part of the city's socio-economic life;

- Reducing the social and gender inequalities that currently characterise the provision and receipt of care.
Barcelona City Council places care at the heart of its institutional actions. Some of the main actions are:
The projects are created by people from the area in order to resolve their care needs in a collective, non-profit way.
Barcelona will soon have a reference centre for caring for people, in order to recognise care as a central part of the city’s life, promote the co-responsibility of all social stakeholders when guaranteeing the right to decent, high-quality care and reduce social and gender inequalities. The centre will provide information and guidance to all individual and family carers, professionals, associations and organisations involved in the care process.
The aim of the conference is to provide information about the implementation of the Government Measure for Democratising Care to organisations, representatives and people who work in the care economy,and to showcase actions carried out by other city stakeholders that contribute to its objectives.
