The meetings were held on 6 and 7 October 2021, the goal being to present the Plural Masculinities Centre, a new municipal facility to foster a positive, plural and diverse perspective of masculinity. The centre is designed to generate alternative concepts to the strictest and outdated meaning of “being a man” or “behaving like a man”, promoting the social transformation towards healthier and more equal relationships in our city.

The meetings were held at the Sant Agustí Convent and could also be followed online. Participants included various experts and leading figures in the field of masculinities, such as the sociologists Miquel Missé and Paco Abril, the writer Roy Galan and the director of the Institute for Research on Women, Gender and Sexuality at Columbia University, Jack Halberstam.

Besides presenting the new municipal facility, the goal of the meetings was to reflect on the importance of strengthening work on masculinities in our city and fostering men’s participation in gender equity and justice.
