The fun run, which set off at 9 am from Carrer Pujades, followed a new 7.7 km route, passing through some of Barcelona’s most iconic sites, up to its finishing line at Passeig de Lluís Companys, where the party continued.
This year’s edition featured a series of new developments and solidarity projects that aimed to support important causes for the local community.
In the first place, the race was held in collaboration with the Spanish Metastatic Breast Cancer Association (AECMM), a non-profit organisation working to improve the quality of life not just for people with metastatic breast cancer but also for their families and carers. Note that a large part of the proceeds went to financial resources for continuing research into curing metastatic breast cancer.
Second, for every woman who reached the finishing line, a donation of €1 was made by the Ca l’Aurèlia Women’s Association, which fights against gender violence.
Finally, this year’s edition featured a new, inspiring initiative, #MasQueUnaMuñeca, launched by Wanawake Mujer together with the Esperança Project and other social organisations. This initiative offers a special fabric pin for all the women runners, with the aim of promoting social and employment inclusion of women gender-violence survivors.
Another notable feature was the subsidy of 400 number bibs which the Mares Escoles programme was able to provide mothers, grandmothers, students and teachers with, through the Barcelona Institute of Sports.
The Barcelona Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Fun Run 2023 was a resounding success, both in participation and in solidarity. The event demonstrated, a year on, that Barcelona is a city committed to equality and the defence of women’s rights.
