Cleaning. The strike is scheduled from 9 pm on Sunday, 22 December, to 9 pm on Wednesday, 25 December.

Strike action by workers with the cleaning and waste collection companies in Barcelona is scheduled from 9 pm on Sunday, 22 December, to 9 pm on Wednesday, 25 December. Normal service levels will resume at night on 25 December, with additional services in place from 26 December to reestablished normal service.

Owing to strike action by staff with cleaning and waste collection companies, usual services cannot be guaranteed in the city from 9 pm on 22 December to 9 pm on 25 December.

During the strike, we would be grateful for people’s collaboration in reducing waste as much as possible and avoiding taking it out, as well as making careful use of the minimum service levels decreed by the Catalan government’s Ministry for Work and Employment.

General advice for the days of the strike

  • Reduce the generation of waste as much as possible.
  • Wherever possible, keep your rubbish at home.
  • Separate different types of waste: glass, paper and card, plastic and metals, organic and rubbish. Besides making recycling easier, this will help save grey containers from becoming overloaded.
  • Put your waste inside the containers whenever possible.
  • Keep furniture and old junk at home as the collection service for these items will also be affected by the strike. You can take these items to local green points, which will be operating normally. Check what you can take.
  • Avoid using litter bins in the street so they are not overloaded.
  • Water down urine and excrement left by your pet when you take it out.
  • With glass bottles from Christmas meals, wrapping paper, plastic and other waste, take this out from Thursday, 26 December.
  • Prioritise buying loose items in bulk and use water from the network or filtered.
  • Avoid single-use tableware.
  • Wrap presents with reused or reusable materials such as fabric or boxes.
