01/11/2022 - 10:00

The 15th edition of the Woman and Sport Awards, which is introducing a new category this year, takes place on 3 November, at 6 pm, at the City Hall's historic.

The aim behind the Barcelona Institute of Sports’ Women and Sport Awards is to bring visibility to women connected to the world of physical activity and lend recognition to their work in promoting and boosting gender equality in the sector.

The awards provide for five different categories which anyone can enter personally or propose someone else for. The four classic categories, on the one hand, are: Mass media, which highlights the role of traditional and digital media in dealing with and bringing visibility to women in sport; Sports Club, which confers awards for all the sports associations carrying out initiatives to promote physical activity among women; Woman Athlete, which assesses the sports landmarks achieved during the previous year; and Mireia Tapiador, which lends recognition to the lifetime achievements of athletes and their roles in promoting sport. This 15th edition, on the other hand, is introducing a new category: Women Sports Leader, to honour the women who promote women’s sport in an executive or managerial capacity

The awards have been becoming increasingly popular and influential among the city’s sports players over the years. This has led to a notable increase in entry numbers, from somewhere between 15 and 20, when the awards were first launched, to this year’s total of 71.

The 15th edition of the awards ceremony will be presided over by the 4th Deputy Mayor, Laura Pérez, and the Council for Sports, David Escudé, and can be followed by streaming through this news item or the City Council’s YouTube channel.
