Barcelona City Council has been recognising the careers of sportswomen and women sports promoters, based on their personal and professional activities in the city, since 2006.

Barcelona City Council, through the Barcelona Institute of Sports, will be holding the 14th Women and Sport Awards ceremony in the Saló de Cent hall on Wednesday 1 December. This year’s ceremony can be followed virtually on the sports website and the BCN Esports YouTube channel from 7 pm.

There are four categories, which distinguish the dedication and careers of sportswomen as well as sports clubs and other entities. They are:

Mireia Tapiador Award for Sports Promotion, aimed at women who have excelled in their work to disseminate and promote sport.

Sportswoman Award, recognising the social task of backing women’s sport, as well as dedication and sporting merits.

Media Award, acknowledging individuals or media that have excelled in their work to promote or publicise events, activities and triumphs relating to women and sport.

Sports Club Award, in recognition of the Barcelona sports club that has excelled in its work promoting women’s sport throughout its history or which has achieved a landmark in women’s sport in the previous year.

The goal of the awards is to highlight the achievements of women united in their passion and devotion to physical activity and sport. They have also opened up a new means of disseminating and introducing stories and reflections on the role of women in sport, in order to help achieve a more equal presence in all age ranges and all fields of sport and physical activity.
