The Italian team Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli has made history by winning the first edition of the Puig Women’s America’s Cup, held on 12 October in Barcelona. In a very close fought final against the British team Athena Pathway, the Italians, led by helmswoman Giulia Conti, they held onto the lead throughout the race, winning by just eight seconds and earning a place of honour in the history of women’s sailing.
As for the Spanish Sail Team BC, Silvia Mas, Neus Ballester, María Cantero and Paula Barceló achieved a creditable third place after coming close to the final.
This edition marks a turning point in the history of women’s sailing, and reiterates Barcelona’s commitment to the sport, with active support for Sail Team BCN in this international competition.
