The government measure “Sport and Gender” aims to get rid of gender inequalities in sport and increase the presence and profile of women in different sports disciplines, as well as those in management in sports institutions and organisations. To be implemented by the Barcelona Institute for Sports over the next three years, the measure will also promote the organisation of egalitarian sports events.
Barcelona City Council’s “Sport and Gender” measure is structured into six areas and sets out 51 specific actions for the next three years, with the following goals:
- Introduce the gender perspective into the ordinary work of the Barcelona Institute for Sport, in sports events and in the systemisation of sports facilities in the city.
- Increase the presence and visibility of women in different sports disciplines.
- Promote safe and egalitarian sports activity in public spaces.
- Foster equality in the management of sports institutions and organisations in Barcelona.
