Women and Science. The document can now be found at BCNROC and on the Barcelona Science and Universities website.

A few weeks ago, coinciding with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the conclusions and recommendations of the study "Women and Science in Barcelona. A qualitative analysis of the factors affecting the careers of women researchers", commissioned by Barcelona Science and Universities of Barcelona City Council, was presented at the Saló de Cent. At that presentation, an executive summary was shared that served to anticipate the complete work, which has now been published and is available in the City Council's repository, BCNROC.

The document makes a diagnosis of the gender issue in the scientific field in the city and draws recommendations to combat the so-called “masculinised academic culture”, which partly explains the gender segregation and the difficulties for women to advance in their professional and academic careers. With this work, carried out by Spora Sinergies SCCL, the City Council aims to incorporate a gender perspective into municipal science policies in order to reverse the inequalities between men and women in the field of research.

For this reason, the study provides a set of recommendations aimed at improving public policies in terms of equal rights and opportunities for women scientists. The adoption of these recommendations should raise awareness of the everyday practices and stereotypes that fuel inequalities, provide tools for managing and regulating communication styles, undertake actions to empower women, achieve equal participation in dissemination and media spaces, give greater visibility and recognition to women scientists and facilitate work-life balance, among other measures.
