The travelling SAIL IN Tour winds up its visit to Barcelona with a special session in the theatre at the CCCB on 26 July.
This session forms part of the cultural programme for the America’s Cup and highlights the experiences and achievements of yachtswomen such as Tracy Edwards, Kirsten Neuschäfer, Dawn Riley, Francesca Clapcich and Silvia Mas, focusing on their inspiring stories as renowned international yachtswomen.
The session begins at 6 pm with a screening of the documentary about Kirsten Neuschäfer, the South African who in 2022 became the first woman to win the solo round-the-world regatta known as the Golden Globe Race This will be followed by a screening of the documentary Maiden, explaining the story of Tracy Edwards, who led the first women’s team to take part in the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989.
After the two screenings, the yachtswomen taking part in the debate will be discussing the current situation of women’s sailing. They include Kirsten Neuschäfer and Tracy Edwards, who will be taking part by videoconference. The other participants are the America’s Cup pioneer Dawn Riley, the Italian Olympian and ocean yachtswoman Francesca Clapcich, and the young Catalan Olympian Silvia Mas, world sailing champion in the 470 class in 2021, all of whom will be sharing their experiences and challenges from the world of sailing.
The SAIL IN Tour started in May and forms part of the Cultural Regatta, a programme promoted by Barcelona City Council with various activities to celebrate the America’s Cup.
