Repair workshops and festivals

Barcelona City council is launching a repair-workshop programme at civic and neighbourhood centres. The programme is intended to provide citizens with the necessary knowledge for repairing their own pcs, mobiles, tablets etc., and small electric appliances such as irons, toasters and blenders.

The aim behind the programme is to avoid the build-up of electric-appliance and electronic rubbish (e-Waste) in Barcelona, so as to:

  • Save raw materials for manufacturing brand new devices.
  • Avoid creating waste and therefore the environmental and economic costs of managing it.
  • Empower citizens through DIY culture, giving value to repairs and restorations.

This programme is part of the Zero-Waste Strategy being run by the City Council to reclaim and reuse resources and raw materials and thereby reduce the generation of waste, by encouraging its prevention.

The programme combines workshops run and planned with advice sessions where the public can bring along their broken devices for advice and education on how to repair them.
