A new edition of the Women and Sport Notebook is now available
Barcelona positions itself as a benchmark in the fight against racism and discrimination in sport with a new edition of the Quadern Dones i Esport [Women and Sport Notebook]. This December, coinciding with the UNESCO Global Forum Against Racism and Discrimination, the city reaffirms its commitment to eradicating this type of behaviour and building more inclusive and egalitarian sports spaces.
This notebook shines a spotlight on the lived experiences of sports women who have suffered or experienced racist behaviour, such as Cindy Lima, former basketball player for the Spanish national team, or Muskan Ullah Akhtar and Simran Grang Kaur, cricketers in projects such as Criquet Jove Barcelona. Their stories offer an insight into a reality that we can not ignore and which calls for decisive action from institutions, clubs and fans.
As recognition of the commitment to women’s and inclusive sport, the Women and Sport Notebook also celebrates the winners of the 17th edition of the Women and Sport Award, which recognises figures such as Paola Manjón, Olympic medallist in adapted basketball, or Núria Borràs, noted for her work as a sports director.
This notebook is an indispensable tool for understanding the current challenges and working to ensure sports spaces are free from discrimination, because, as the protagonists remind us: being anti-racist is not just a feeling, but an ongoing action.
