Five hundred people took part in the 28th edition of the Trail Marató de Collserola with the introduction of the new Nordic walking event
The 28th edition of the Trail Marató de Collserola was held today, Sunday - it’s an annual event that on this occasion attracted some 500 participants wanting to explore the trails of this nature reserve.
Organised by the Horta Hiking Union, the event offered runners the chance to enjoy a 42.195 km route starting and finishing at the Horta Velodrome, taking in emblematic spots such as Can Borrell, Can Balasc, the Baixador de Vallvidrera and Vista Rica.
With an elevation gain of 1,900 metres, the course challenged the runners’ balance and endurance. Many of those who finished the race did so in a record time of 3 hours and 30 minutes, while others took as long as eight hours to complete it.
Nordic walking: the big new feature of this year’s edition
This year’s edition saw the introduction of a new feature: Nordic walking, with a 12-kilometre route designed for those wanting to enjoy Collserola in a way that’s less physically demanding. “It’s an improved version of walking in the street, that doesn’t put a strain on the joints”, explained Gili, highlighting the accessibility of this option for people of all ages.
Preparation, the key to success in mountain running
Sports journalist Raúl Muñoz stressed the importance of good preparation when tackling a mountain race like this one, especially on the descents, which is where most injuries occur given the need for balance and ankle control”, according to Gili.
With this 28th edition, the Trail Marató de Collserola confirms its role as a key competition on the Barcelona sports calendar, offering an experience that combines sport, nature and the chance to experience the city from a different perspective.
