La Cursa de la Mercè Bimbo Global Race 2024: A success for sport, solidarity and sustainability
The 46th edition of the run attracted over 12,000 runners and stood out for its sporting quality, as well as its high level of solidarity and environmental commitment.
Barcelona hosted a new edition of the La Mercè Fun Run on Sunday, consolidated as one of the city’s most iconic sports events.
Funds raised for Salut Mental Catalunya
The funds raised from registrations for this year’s event will go to Salut Mental Catalunya, an organisation offering support for people with mental health problems and their families, standing up for their rights and promoting equal opportunities. This contribution enables participants to be part of very important cause, strengthening the visibility and support needed to improve many people’s quality of life.
Bimbo and the Food Bank: Commitment to solidarity
Thanks to the sponsorship of Bimbo, everybody taking part in the run indirectly contributed to the Barcelona Food Bank. The company donated 20 slices of bread per person registered, promoting help for people in vulnerable situations. This solidarity initiative boosted the social impact of the event, beyond the run itself.
Men and women’s podiums
The men’s event was won by Ismail Atriki, who finished the 10 km run in an excellent time of 29:55. Second place was for Marc Fernández, who crossed the line in a time of 29:58, followed by Elliot Tissier, who completed the men’s podium with a time of 30:00.
In the women’s event, Cristina Silva finished first with a time of 34:35. Mireia Guarner finished second in a time of 34:51, while Argentina Oria De Rueda came third with a time of 35:05.
Commitment to sustainability
Besides solidarity, the La Mercè Fun Run 2024 stood out for its firm commitment to sustainability. The organisers adopted measures to reduce the use of plastics, implement recycled materials and foster sustainable mobility. These actions reflect the will to make this event a role model in environmental responsibility.
