The international competition has consolidated its prestige, attracting more than 70 professional triathletes from all over the world, including five Olympians who will be competing in a key event on the sporting calendar.
Presence of world-class Olympians and triathletes
This year’s Challenge Barcelona features a world-class line-up of athletes, with names such as Jessica Learmonth and Samuel Dickinson from the UK, as well as Spain’s Sara Perez Sala. This edition also has a strong female presence, with women making up 30% of those taking part once again, reflecting female athletes’ growing interest in the discipline.
New race route taking in iconic sights
Redesigned for speed, and to provide a better experience for the athletes, the race route takes in some of Barcelona’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Passeig Bogatell and the Nova Icària beach. Participants will be able to enjoy a memorable experience with great views of the Mediterranean and warm public support.
Distance offerings and TRIEXPO for all levels
With a wide range of distances on offer, from Short to Aquatló and Junior Challenge, the 2024 Challenge Barcelona Triathlon has options to suit athletes of all levels. At the same time, the TRIEXPO trade fair will be welcoming more than 20 brands from the sector, and is expected to attract 8,000 visitors, making it one of the largest trade fairs geared towards triathletes in Barcelona.
An inclusive triathlon for sportspeople with special needs
Challenge Barcelona continues its commitment to inclusivity through the Triathlon Without Borders project, which facilitates the participation of athletes with special needs. Supported by the ACELL-Special Olympics Federation and Fundació la Caixa, this initiative offers personalised training, making the competition an accessible experience for all.
With the competition just around the corner, the 2024 Challenge Barcelona Triathlon is set to be one of the most exciting and inclusive events of the season, turning the city into the epicentre of the world of the international triathlon.
