Raid Atlètic, a programme for promoting athletics among young people, is back for its 2024 edition with the participation of some 3,250 students from 63 schools in Barcelona.

This year, the event is being held at the La Mar Bella municipal sports centre. Today, 9 April, some 1,731 1st and 2nd year secondary school students from 27 schools will be taking part, followed by 1,519 year 4 and 5 students from 36 primary schools tomorrow, 10 April.

The aim of this event is to promote athletics as an extra-curricular sports activity among the students. This dynamic day of sport seeks to motivate the children to take up athletics.

Since the 2005-06 academic year, the Barcelona Institute of Sports (IBE) has been promoting the Raid Atlètic as an initiative designed to provide young people with an all-round and inclusive experience. The day includes warm-up sessions, various activities divided into different thematic areas and a final stretch and cool down session. Each area offers a series of activities adapted to the different skills of the participants. 

During the Raid Atlètic, the students will get the chance to participate in a number of athletics races, including individual and group competitions, coordination exercises and sessions for raising awareness of the various adapted athletics modalities. These activities will be supervised by specialist coaches and members of the organisation Lèxia, which provides support to students with special educational needs.
