“Women with Impact”: a project giving visibility to the role of women in sport
Part of the Women and Sport Awards campaign, the Women with Impact programme started on 8 March, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
The “Women with Impact” cycle of talks began today, giving school pupils a closer look at the reality of women linked to the world of sport. The goal of the cycle is to give visibility to leading women in sport and promote gender equality among students in their third and fourth years of secondary school in Barcelona.
Backed by the government measure Sport and Gender, and the Glass Ceiling programme, the idea is to recognise women directors, trainers and professionals in sport through campaigns, publications and interviews. The goal is to inspire new generations, offering female role-models in a sphere traditionally masculinised.
Over 40 talks are scheduled this year, with the participation of 15 professionals from the world of sport, including Olympic athletes, referees and directors. Twenty-five sessions have been reserved so far, and schools have until 13 October to sign up via the platform.
The project started successfully last year, with 21 talks at 15 schools and nearly 800 pupils attending. A guidance session was held last week with the speakers, directed by an expert in gender and coeducation, to guarantee that the talks promote reflection about equality in sport.
This initiative fosters identification with women role-models in sport, inspiring girls to explore professional careers in this sphere and helping to break the glass ceiling.
Some of the women taking part also featured in this year’s cycle of interviews, which can be found on the BCN Sports YouTube channel, where they are all available to facilitate access to them and broaden their impact.
