Construction work on the new La Sagrera Municipal Sports Centre and the Espronceda Sports Complex, located in the district of Sant Andreu, is already underway.

Espronceda Sports Complex

The new Espronceda Municipal Sports Complex, located on C/ Espronceda, will offer a triple multi-sports hall, an archery hall, a table tennis hall, a sports hall, two double-height artistic gymnastics halls, and a meeting space with communal services.

The basement of the building will house the archery hall and the triple hall. The ground floor will include a multi-purpose space for neighbourhood use, the reception area, and offices. The upper floors will be used for table tennis and artistic gymnastics, with adapted changing rooms and dedicated storerooms.

La Sagrera Municipal Sports Centre

Located on C/ Bonaventura Gispert, the new La Sagrera Municipal Sports Centre will include two open-air swimming pools, a solarium of around 1,000 m², two paddle tennis courts, four rooms for supervised activities, a large weights room and a meeting area with a bar and communal services. During the second phase, a retractable roof and a heating and cooling system will be installed so that the pools can be used all year round.

Sustainability and LEED certification

Both the Espronceda Sports Complex and the La Sagrera Municipal Sports Centre incorporate sustainability criteria, which include the recycling of waste heat, photovoltaic power generation, and the efficient use of rainwater. Furthermore, they are working to achieve LEED certification, which attests to environmental excellence in buildings.

With these new projects, Barcelona is reinforcing its network of sports facilities, promoting physical activity and offering sustainable, modern facilities for practising a range of sports. Work on the La Sagrera Municipal Sports Centre and the Espronceda Sports Complex is expected to be completed by the 2025-26 season, bringing new sporting and fitness opportunities to the city.
