The Zurich Marató Barcelona 2022, que s’havia de celebrar el proper 3 d’abril, canvia de data i es posposa al diumenge 8 de maig. L’eDreams Barcelona Half Marathon has been shifted from 6 March to 3 April, providing that the health authorities allow it to go ahead at that time.

The delay by the company managing the event, in reserving the date with the RFEA, meant clashing with the Spanish championship in Zaragoza and led us to look at different possibilities for both of these long-distance events in Barcelona: the Zurich Barcelona Marathon and the eDreams Barcelona Half Marathon.

For its part, the eDreams event is to be held on Sunday 3 April, instead of the original date of 6 March. This means that runners in the Zurich Barcelona Marathon can include the half marathon in their training schedule, 4 weeks ahead of the full marathon, as is usual. This was another determining factor in the change of date, as the idea was to guarantee the feasibility of both events.

The marathon clashing with other major events at a national and/or international level, considering the event’s aspiration to attract widespread participation among national runners, coupled with the global health crisis due to the Omicron variant of Covid-19, also proved to be determining factors in the decision. The international character of the event, with runners from abroad making up over 50% of participants, requires the run to be held at a point when there is less uncertainty and athletes can travel more easily.

Taking into account the effects of the different waves of the virus throughout the year and the climate, the spring is the best option for holding both events.

The new date will also offer more time and better conditions for training and preparation by runners, essential for long-distance events such as these.

The intention with the new dates of 3 April and 8 May is to offer full safety guarantees for participants before travelling and also during the event, enabling them to enjoy a magical experiences in the city of Barcelona.
