What records do we keep?
Municipal fonds
Here you will find all the administrative documentation produced by past and present municipal bodies in the Ciutat Vella district, and that of other areas related to any historical period.
We mainly keep documents produced and received by the District Municipal Council offices from 1984 to the present day. The oldest municipal records we keep are those of the Municipal Council (1929-39) and the Deputy Mayor’s Office (1939-79), two former municipal bodies in the district. However, there are very few of these records and they are of little importance given both bodies had few functions.
The historical records dealing with the origins, development and construction of Ciutat Vella’s neighbourhoods can basically be found at the Historic Archives and the Contemporary Municipal Archives of the City of Barcelona.
Private fonds
We highlight the fonds of Gràfiques Magí Bové (1920-92), a family graphics business, which includes documents generated by the company and its clients. Those printed after the Civil War (1936-39) are particularly interesting.
Collections
We draw attention to the Barceloneta Popular Archives collection, consisting of photographs and text documents on a very wide range of subjects, from individuals and associations in the Barceloneta neighbourhood. It was donated to the Archives by a local resident in 2006 and runs from the early years of the 20th century to the start of the 21st century.
We also have an auxiliary library, as well as magazines and periodicals produced in Ciutat Vella which, in many cases, have come from residents’ associations and other entities.
If you want to find out all the information we have at the Ciutat Vella Archives, consult the fonds table.
