History of the Archive
Residents’ archives
It dates back to 1982, when a group of local residents interested in Sant Andreu’s history were willing to dig out historical documents and carry out studies on the neighbourhood’s past. Since 1988, it has been a District Municipal Council service, collecting municipal documents alongside private fonds. With the Council’s support, the archives were installed in the Sant Andreu Civic Centre.
Initially, they were split between two locations. The historical section was housed in the birthplace of the famous poet Ignasi Iglésias, on the street named after him, while the administrative section went to the District Municipal Council headquarters in Plaça d’Orfila.
The move to the current location, the Josep Pallach municipal building at Carrer dels Segadors, 2, took place in 2004 and enabled all the records to be brought together.
