A stroll through the former village of Sarrià
We offer an itinerary for discovering the past of the former village of Sarrià based on the accounts of documents conserved in the Arxiu Municipal de Barcelona and, more specifically, in the Arxiu Municipal del Districte de Sarrià – Sant Gervasi. The route begins at the Orfeó Sarrianenc building and ends at the houses on Carrer de Jordà, taking Carrer Major de Sarrià as its central axis, along which you will be able to admire some of the neighbourhood’s most interesting buildings.
Sarrià is bounded mountainward by the Collserola mountain range and the two rivers that run parallel to the former village of Sarrià: the River Blanca and the River Magòria. Settlements in the area go back to ancient times, although the village dates back to the Middle Ages, when several religious buildings were constructed, such as the Sant Vicenç church, one of the main stops on this itinerary.
