A prize created by Barcelona City Council in 2021 as part of a government initiative Barcelona Fem Tech Prize for Gender Equity in the ICT Sector

The prize is intended to provide visibility, recognition and support to ICT sector projects led by women, and thereby help to combat the digital gender gap in the city.

A prize of 8,000 euros is awarded in recognition of the best projects submitted in each of the following categories:

  • Category A: CTEM, gender and childhood
  • Category B: data with a gender approach in the technology sector
  • Category C: violence on the web
  • Category D: visibility of women working in tech in Barcelona

The projects must be focused on Barcelona as regards subject matter, target audience or impact framework.

The prize is open to natural and legal persons, public or private, that have Spanish nationality or are resident in the Spanish State, as well as groups made up of natural or legal persons and without legal personality that meet the conditions set out in the rules of this call for entries and the regulations that apply.

2021: first edition of the award

The call for entries was went out in September 2021 and the winning projects and organisations were announced in December:

  • Category A: Associació Espiral, Educació i Tecnologia, for the “Technovation Girls Catalunya” project
  • Category B: Associació Digitalfems, for the “Open Data on Women Technologists in Barcelona” project
  • Category C: Adriana Aguirre Such and Stefania-Maria Kousoula, for the “Sischain: a Sorority Blockchain” project
  • Category D: Proferox Invest S.L. and Meritxell Bautista, with the “Fibracat TV” project.

During the month of April 2022, a meeting will be held so that the public can learn more about the four winning projects first-hand, and find out what the winners have done with the prize money.
