City Council. An exchange of experiences between Barcelona, Bilbao, Beasain, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Vila-real and Vilanova i la Geltrú.

With Barcelona as the first world capital for time policies, the city hosted the ceremony “Time policies in the local world: experiences, challenges and opportunities”. The event offered a chance to exchange the experiences of Barcelona, Bilbao, Beasain, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Vila-real and Vilanova i la Geltrú, generating joint learning on municipal initiatives regarded as good practice, tackling challenges and shared difficulties and fostering time policies in other municipalities in Catalonia and Spain.

The session was attended by over 150 people, including political representatives and staff from the public administration linked to time policies all around the Spanish state. Between them they presented experiences linked to time policies, care work and joint responsibility, plus examples of how to promote and drive more efficient work policies:

  • Barcelona: introduced the Vila Veïna project, a service offering information on resources and services available to facilitate care work and improve the availability of time.
  • Bilbao: explained the origin and promotion of the DenBBOra network of companies, a municipal initiative by Bizkaia Provincial Council to create a public-private space to achieve better time management by organisations.
  • Gipuzkoa: presented its Herrilab project, an action plan to promote jointly responsible work-life balance for municipal staff.
  • Sant Boi de Llobregat: explained measures being implemented to promote time policies within the municipal council to benefit its workers.
  • Vila-real: presented a study to gauge the current situation in the municipality, within the promotion of the Ministry of Equality’s coresponsibility plan.

Upcoming events as part of the city’s capital role include Time Use Week, to be held in Barcelona from 24 to 29 October.
