History of the Archive

From Casa de les Altures to Casernes de Girona

The Horta-Guinardó District Municipal Archives originated with the creation of a library and archive hub in line with the 1988 organisational guidelines for Barcelona’s districts.

The Archives as such was set up in December 1988 but not officially inaugurated until 17 October 1989 at Casa de les Altures, the district headquarters. At the opening ceremony, the reference room was named after Felip Capdevila and the donation of his historical documents to the Archives was formally accepted.

Twenty years later, in 2009, the Archives moved into some modern, well-equipped facilities at Carrer de Lepant, 387. A building that had once been the barracks of the Bruc and Girona cavalry regiment.
