What records do we keep?
Municipal fonds
We mainly keep administrative documents produced and received by the District Municipal Council offices from 1984 to the present day. We also conserve records from some of the bodies that have disappeared, such as the Municipal Council of districts IV and VI, from 1964 to 1979, although these have a nominal value given the few functions these bodies carried out.
Historical records on the origins, development and construction of the Eixample can be found at the Barcelona Contemporary Municipal Archives.
We highlight the series that refer to obtaining municipal permits to carry out economic activities and specific works, given the Eixample’s demographic, economic and architectural importance in the city as a whole.
Private fonds
Given its graphic interest, we draw attention to the donation by the photographer Rosa Feliu, from her 1983 photo reportage “Monumental Eixample”. This consists of 2,206 negatives and 886 positives portraying facades in what is considered to be the monumental part of the Eixample, the area marked off by Carrer de Muntaner, Passeig de Sant Joan, Avinguda de la Diagonal, Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes and Passeig de Gràcia. All these photographs can be consulted in the Barcelona Municipal Archives’ online catalogue.
We also have an auxiliary library, as well as magazines and periodicals produced in the Eixample which, in many cases, have come from residents’ associations and other entities.
If you want to find out all the information we have at the Eixample Archives, consult the fonds table.
