If we've learnt one thing from the pandemic and its resulting social and economic crisis it’s that it hasn’t had the same impact on women as it's had on men. On the one hand, there has been a rise in poverty and job insecurity, realities that women suffer from more harshly and frequently. And on the other, the care crisis that had already been afflicting our society has come to the fore and become all the more acute.
It is in this context that we need specific policies to be made more than ever to prevent this: we need feminist policies on 8 March and every day of the year.
Long live the feminist movement!
Every year, to mark International Women's Day, Barcelona City Council calls for entries for the 8 March - Maria Aurèlia Capmany Award, which focuses on an issue with a social and gender impact. For this 36th edition, the chosen theme is ‘Feminist economics: let’s combat women’s precarious work situation in the city’.
You will be able to vote online for the People’s Choice Award on 17 and 18 March.
The Jury and People’s Choice Awards Ceremony will be held at the Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria on 19 March 2022.
The singer-songwriter Suu and the women’s flamenco fusion quintet Maruja Limón will be the protagonists in the concert to mark International Women’s Day.
The concert will be at the Sala Moragues at the Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria on 19 March, 12.15 pm. Free admission but places are limited.
Over three days in March we want to pay homage to the publication Our bodies, Ourselves (1971) and to the women who wrote it, translated it and circulated it around the world.
The work represented a shift in the way of seeing, thinking and feeling about our own bodies, making self-examination a political practice and taking on a fundamental role in the feminism of the 70s.
