Time use strategy renewed

Time use. More public policies relating to the organisation of time and responding to the distress and inequalities currently generated.

The strategy on time use policies for the period 2022-2023 has been renewed. The strategy is a joint initiative by the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Metropolitan Area and the Barcelona Time Use Initiative for a Healthy Society. The goal is to highlight backing for public policies relating to the organisation of time and responding to distress and the inequalities currently generated in Catalan society.

The strategy establishes three goals:

  • Consolidate Time Use Week as an international meeting space on time policies, connecting the work done by social stakeholders, institutions, research and citizens.
  • Promote time policies to provide solutions to the current care, climate and economic crises, through exchanges with the Global Network of Cities, Local and Regional Governments for Time Policies.
  • Roll out and gain more signatories for the Barcelona Declaration on Time Policies, already signed by over a hundred international stakeholders.

The ceremony was also used to present the main new points in this year’s edition of Time Use Week, which is being held in Barcelona from 24 to 28 October with cities, regions, international organisations and research groups from around the world.

This year’s edition will address inequalities in time use and analyse policies and initiatives to combat them and guarantee people’s right to time.
