Officers from the corps gave two training sessions to workers from Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB). The goal is for workers to be familiar with the action protocols and procedures against sexual violence, as well as to promote awareness and foster prevention, detection and support.
The topics covered included the criminological vision of sexual violence, support protocols for victims, related criminal and administrative regulations, plus the operational procedures and the safe routes of the City Police. There were also some workshops on resolving practical cases.
The sessions, each lasting 5 hours, were held on the Wednesdays of 15 and 22 May and were organised in conjunction with the Councillor’s Office for Feminism, Equality and Democratic Memory and TMB.
Public transport staff play a key role in the prevention and detection of sexual violence on transport and in public streets. Intervention based on the knowledge acquired in the training sessions could be essential in preventing and reacting to these situations. According to the latest crime figures, reported cases of sexual violence in the city in 2023 rose by 24.5% compared to 2022.
