History of the Archive

From Casa de la Vila to Torre del Fang

In 1979, the first District Municipal Council began the process of reclaiming the administrative archives of the old Sant Martí de Provençals council, which had been kept in the town hall building, Casa de la Vila, in Plaça de Valentí Almirall. This led to the inauguration of the Sant Martí District Municipal Archives in 1982.

Five years later, they took up the first floor of an old family country house known as Torre del Fang on Carrer del Clot. Following the approval of the Barcelona City Council Archive Organisation Project in 1988, the Sant Martí Archives were incorporated into the Network of District Municipal Archives.

Finally, in 1995, they were moved to their current location in a building in Vila Olímpica, an area originally built as the Olympic Village to house athletes taking part in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
