Explore and solve the riddles of the Serra-Balet factory using its documents
We offer a tour-workshop so that secondary education level school students can get to know the Sants-Montjuïc District Municipal Archives. The combined tour-workshop will give them the opportunity to discover the Archives whilst doing an activity based on research and handling.
This activity is split into two parts. The first involves a tour of the archive centre to show students the route a document follows from the moment it arrives here to when it can be consulted by archive users. The second part is a research workshop with the goal of making participants research and reflect on different types of documents, based on a specific period in the history of the district, in order to obtain relevant information about the mysteries raised.
This activity will also give the pupils a chance to learn, first hand, about both the function of the Archives and the work archivists do, and appreciate the value of our records as patrimonial testimony of the past and a management tool for the municipal administration.
Its learning goals are to:
- Learn about the functions and the types of documents held at the Sants-Montjuïc District Municipal Archives.
- Reflect on the importance of conserving documents, a source of historical knowledge and discover different classification methods.
- Learn about the history of the Serra-Balet factory, how it functioned and understand what it was like to work there and the working conditions.
- Analyse different types of documents in order to be able to understand them.
Educational levels: secondary education
