Sants’ steam-powered factories: discover the Industrial Revolution through documents
This activity is split into two parts. The first involves a tour of the archive centre to show students the route a document follows from the moment it arrives here to when it can be consulted by archive users.
The second part is a research workshop using different kinds of documents for reflection and research, to extract important information on our history and, more specifically, on a very concrete period, the Industrial Revolution, and the social changes it produced.
Its learning goals are to:
- Learn about the functions and the types of documents conserved at the Sants-Montjuïc District Municipal Archives.
- Reflect on the importance of conserving documents, a source of historical knowledge.
- Identify the main factories in Sants from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th centuries.
- Deduce what working-class life was like in that period.
- Establish the differences between the lives of workers and capitalists.
Educational levels: upper cycle of primary education.
Approximate duration of the activity: 2 hours
Price: free.
