Collection of dead animals
Barcelona City Council operates a service to collect the bodies of dead animals, domestic or wild, which inhabit the city. The collection vehicle is specially equipped with separate and properly refrigerated compartments, ensuring the bodies are handled correctly.
The home collection service operates the following timetable:
- Mondays to Saturdays, from 8 am to 1.40 pm and from 3 pm to 8.20 pm.
- Sundays and public holidays, from 8 am to 1.40 pm.
The collection time (within these hours of service) is two hours, and staff operating the service will not access tiled rooftops, skylights, cornices or any similar spaces where access is difficult. The same applies to ladders, platforms or cranes of any type.
Fields of action:
- Collection service in public highway (free)
The removal of dead animals from public spaces is free. The process is as simple as reporting the location of the animal using any municipal channel (freephone 010, the City Council’s virtual office, the ‘Barcelona a la butxaca’ app etc.).
- Home collection service (charges apply)
The bodies of dead domestic animals can also be collected from the home by making a request via the same municipal media mentioned above. In this case, there is a charge for the service, which varies according to the animal (check the table of public-sector charges in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (BOP), dated 9-12-2022, page 43).
If the animal to be removed (pigeon, cat, rat, mouse etc.) is in an interior yard, skylight, balcony or terrace, even if the space belongs to nobody, the current charge will apply.
- Veterinary centres or similar (charges apply)
Veterinary clinics, laboratories or similar centres can also form part of the service for which charges apply. Prices can also be found in the table of public-sector charges in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (BOP), dated 9-12-2022, page 43. In this case, the collection will be arranged during morning hours.
