Collection of asbestos-containing fibre cement
Asbestos-containing fibre cement is a material that was previously used in the construction of buildings. Elements such as asbestos cement panels, planters, chimneys and smoke vents, ventilation grilles, pipes and water tanks, among others, are made with this compound of cement and asbestos fibres. The products themselves present no health risks, but are harmful if the material breaks down.
When waste or small objects made of asbestos-containing fibre cement need to be removed from a building, they should be taken with caution to the Vall d’Hebron Area Green Point. To avoid unnecessary risks, citizens should adhere to the following instructions: never break the material; wrap the material in cling film to prevent the detachment of fibres; and wear single-use gloves, overalls and a mask when removing and transporting the material. If no single-use protective clothing is worn, we recommend washing the worn clothing straight away, without shaking it.
