Tips for preventing waste outside

When we move around the city and use its public spaces, we can also act in certain ways that prevent the generation of waste. It is the responsibility of all citizens to keep the city’s public spaces clean and use them correctly.

Click on the different spaces and see the different ways you can prevent waste from being generated while you enjoy activities outdoors.

On the beach

Barcelona’s public beaches are amongst the spaces most frequented by the city’s residents. It is everyone's responsibility to use them correctly and ensure that waste is not generated.

  • Use public transport to get there. You can reach the city’s beaches by taking the metro, bus, bike or simply by walking there. By travelling in this way, you will reduce your carbon footprint with every journey.
  • Make sure you don't leave anything on the beach. If you need to throw something away, be sure to deposit the items in the bins that correspond to each category (organic matter, packaging/recyclables, paper and cardboard, glass and general waste).
  • Use reusable flasks, water bottles, tupperware boxes and packaging if you need to take food or drink with you. You can take everything you need without generating any waste.

In the mountain

Barcelona has Montjuïc and Tibidabo on the edge of the city, with the latter forming part of the Collserola mountain range. These easy-to-access green spaces are great places to go for a walk, day trip or picnic.

  • Use public transport to get there. You can reach the city’s green points by taking the metro, bus, bike or simply by walking there. By travelling in this way, you will reduce your carbon footprint with every journey.
  • Make sure you don't leave anything in these areas.

In the park

The city of Barcelona has around fifty public parks and gardens where you can go for a walk, do sport or simply relax. They are great locations for disconnecting from your day-to-day life and enjoying the wonders of nature without even leaving the city.

  • Use public transport to get there. You can reach the city’s parks by taking the metro, bus, bike or simply by walking there. By travelling in this way, you will reduce your carbon footprint with every journey.
  • Make sure you don't leave anything in these areas.

In the street

People and vehicles travel around Barcelona's network of streets. Whether you live in the city or you are just visiting, it is your responsibility to use them properly and avoid the generation of waste.

  • Make sure you don't leave anything on the street. If you want to throw something away, be sure to deposit the items in the bins that correspond to each category (organic matter, packaging/recyclables, paper and cardboard, glass and general waste).

Pocket waste (small pieces of paper, tissues, cigarette butts, tickets, etc.) can be deposited in the small rubbish bins in the street. If you don’t find a bin nearby, you can take this waste home with you and separate it correctly into the different waste categories.
