Renew your wardrobe
Renew your wardrobe is a clothing exchange network for clothes that you don’t wear any more but which are still in good condition, thus promoting responsible consumption, waste prevention and sustainability. It takes place in spring and autumn at different centres and organisations across the city and anyone who wants to can take part.
The aim of this project, launched in November 2011, is to raise public awareness of waste prevention when it comes to managing used clothes and avoiding them becoming waste by offering original and creative ideas for their reuse.
The current health situation means for the time being it is impossible to hold the face-to-face exchanges and, for that reason, we can’t exchange clothes either. We started an online line of work last year which we continue to promote with a double aim:
- To grow and strengthen the network of participants
- To provide collaborators with the tools for running virtual activities
What can I do with the clothes I don’t wear any more?
- Use them to make other new, imaginative outfits. For example, in our complementary customisation and upcycling activities.
- As a last resort, you can also take them to one of the Roba Amiga containers found on the streets or at green points around the city. If you want more information on the Roba Amiga project, visit the company’s website www.robaamiga.cat.
In addition, at the Fab Labs across the city you can customise your clothes with buttons, buckles, brooches or patches designed by you and made with digital fabrication machines such as 3D printers, digital embroiderers or laser cutters.
When it comes to buying clothes...
- Do you ask yourself if you really need them?
- Do you know that second-hand is the most sustainable option?
- Do you pick clothes with added social or environmental value?
- Do you know that there are places where you can repair your clothes for free and learn to sew?
You can find the location of second-hand shops, sustainable fashion stores and places where you can repair clothes on the More Sustainable Barcelona Map. Find the nearest one to you and, if you see one is missing, you can add it to the map or add a point to an existing route.
