Waste collection and street cleaning are services to which the City Council allocates a substantial part of the municipal budget and are a key part of Barcelona’s environmental policy.
We want to see a clean, sustainable city where citizens share responsibility for looking after the public space and managing waste.
Street cleaning
Barcelona’s street cleaning service is planned in accordance with the uses and requirements of each part of the city. It also factors in the reality of each space, taking into account such aspects as the transit of people and vehicles and the type of activity carried out in each area.

Working towards zero waste
Within the framework of the municipal zero waste strategy, the focus is on policies aimed at changing the consumption model and reducing the overall volume of waste, implementing waste prevention programmes, encouraging reuse of products and repair of objects and appliances, while also promoting food recovery.
